AI Technology Breakthrough, University of Technology Sydney’s GrapheneX at the UTS Human Artificial Intelligence Centre has successfully created DeWave, a breakthrough technology that can turn thoughts into words for easy communication.
Overcoming Speech Impairments through Brain Waves
“This is a major step forward in translating raw EEG (electroencephalogram) waves into language,” said Ching Ten Lin, a lecturer at the UTS School of Computer Science and Director of the GrapheneX UTS HAI Centre, as reported by The Independent.
“This innovation combines discrete coding techniques in the process of translating brain thoughts into text, providing an innovative approach to neural decoding,” he added.
AI Technology DeWave: Alternative Communication Solution Without Brain Implants
DeWave is not only aimed at converting thoughts into text, but is also geared towards helping individuals with speech limitations due to illness or injury. The goal is to provide an alternative way for humans to communicate through DeWave.
The study, presented at the NeurIPS conference in New Orleans on Dec. 12, tested DeWave’s ability to read the brain waves of researchers reading a text. The brain waves were interpreted into words and displayed on a screen.
